Baptism

The Word of God teaches the baptism of believers.

"And Crispus, the chief ruler of the synagogue, believed on the Lord with all his house; and many of the Corinthians hearing believed, and were baptized." (Acts 18:8)

"Then they that gladly received his word were baptized:" (Acts 2:24)

"And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized? And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest" (Acts 8:36,37)

"Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:" (Matthew 28:19)

Baptism can be seen to be an act of obedience for believers, i.e., those who have believed God accepting their guilt before a Holy God and who have repented and put their trust in the Lord Jesus Christ for salvation.

Infant baptism, for instance, has no foundation in the Word of God. How can an infant accept their guilt before a Holy God, repent and believe the gospel?

There are many other forms of baptism practiced today but there are not scriptural, they are practiced by those who trust in the traditions of men rather than God.

"Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ." (Colossians 2:8)

"For laying aside the commandment of God, ye hold the tradition of men," (Mark 7:8)
