I will get saved but not right now

Sometimes, you come across individuals who know that they need to be saved but they plan to get saved later. There's no hurry and they are enjoying themselves so much at the moment.

Perhaps such have been born into Christian homes, that is, their mother and father are both saved. In any case, they have heard the gospel message and that is a blessing but with it comes tremendous responsibility. To have heard the message of the gospel; to know that you're a sinner, to have heard that there's a God who loves you and that there's a Saviour who died for you; but to have reckoned this knowledge of little importance, to be thinking there's no urgency.

Christianity has been dreamt up to give comfort

It has been said to me that Christianity was just a concept dreamt up years ago to give those who believed in it a certain amount of comfort with regard to what happens after you die.

What think ye of Christ?

It's a question we all must answer "What think ye of Christ?" (Matthew 22:42)

As the hymn-writer puts it,

What think ye of Christ? is the test
To try both your state and your scheme
You cannot be right in the rest
Unless you think rightly of Him

I'm a good person!

To do good unto others is commendable but we are all measured according to God's standard and the bible teaches us "...all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;" (Romans 3:23)
"Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me." (Psalm 51:5)

God's standard is infinitly higher than ours. We, so easily, argue away our sin. We minimise it, we deny it, we categorise our sins so that some become so small in our eyes, that they don't really seem to count.
But in God's judgement we "...are all gone out of the way...there is none that doeth good, no, not one." (Romans 3:12)

God is a God of love and so He won't punish me!

Often I come across sincere people who believe that God won't punish them for their sins; that somehow He will forgive them because, after all, He is a God of love.

My first response to this is that God is indeed a God of love!
"For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life" (John 3:16)

Caught up in the Rapture debate

Firstly, to clarify, rapture is not a word that is found in Holy Scripture. There are numerous words not found in scripture, however, that are perfectly acceptable to explain scriptural truths, millennium, trinity, divinity, incarnation.

The word rapture is derived from the Latin bible, Vulgate, and is a rendering of the word 'raptus'. It is a Latin rendering of the Greek work 'harpazo' which means to 'snatch out' or 'to seize'.
There are those who deny that any such 'rapture' of the saints will take place at all. They refer to such an event under the erroneous umbrella of 'rapture trap' or 'left behind' theory.

Computers show how wind could have parted Red Sea...!

The article below appeared recently on the bbc website.

At first glance it appears to agree with the biblical account given in Exodus 13 and 14. However, there are important differences.

Am I going to heaven?

There are perhaps more than 2 responses to this question.

There are those who don't think that they are going to heaven. Amongst these are they that might think that there's no way that they could ever expect to be in heaven. They may be heavily burdened by a life of sin; they may feel that their sins are great and inexcusable and there's no way God could admit them to heaven. If any of my readers fall into this category, then I'm delighted that you've arrived at this site. Your sins may indeed be great and there is certainly no way that you could ever fit yourself for God's presence but please allow me to direct you to the section on Salvation with the blessed assurance that there is a Saviour, mighty to save to the uttermost, all who come unto Him.

Salvation

Savlation is provided by the Grace of God as a free gift.

"For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast." (Ephesians 2:8,9)

We can do absolutely nothing to save ourselves. We can only believe God and accept our place as a guilty sinner and receive the gift of God through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.

Sin

"For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;" (Romans 3:23)
"Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:" (Romans 5:12)

The Word of God teaches us that we are born in sin and shapen in iniquity. From the moment we are born into this world, we are not the children of God but we are, by nature, the children of wrath.

Baptism

The Word of God teaches the baptism of believers.
